Hi. My name is Rachel. I just turned 18 years old on August 2nd. Reality hit me like a bag of bricks in the face and I soon realized, hey, it’s time to grow up. Well you know what reality? Screw you! I’m taking this bitch called Adulthood at my own pace…Sort of. I guess you can’t outsmart the Universe but you sure can try.
That should explain the title of my blog. My mom told me that she doesn’t know one adult who was ever ready to be an adult. She said she’s still not ready. Comforting words from a 50 year old woman.
I love my mom. You might hear a lot about her in the future. She’s awesome. We got along very, very well.
I also have a sister who married in 2005. She just gave birth to a boy. My nephew is the most adorable baby I have ever seen. You might hear a lot about her too. She’s frustrating sometimes in the choices she makes and the things she says but there’s nothing I can do but rant about it.
I live with my mom and my boyfriend. My boyfriend just moved in with us a month ago. We get along amazingly. We met in a Mormon teen chatroom in 2001. That’s another story for me to tell. We’ve had our ups and downs but we’re pretty stable now.
I just got a job at Wal Mart. Haven’t started yet but I’m sure you’ll find a lot of stories of the people I meet and the frustrations I have. I’ll be working the Fitting Room area.
I’m still working on getting my GED. After that I hope to apply for community college and start winter quarter. I want to graduate with a degree in Journalism, hopefully. I’d love to intern at Wired Magazine. I’d love to write for any magazine. But first I’m going to get my AA. I hope to go to Kent State University someday. Mostly because it’s cheap.
I have three cats. You’ll probably hear some about them, too. Especially how fat two of them are. And how talkative the other one is. I’ll tell the stories of their adoptions, too.
I’ll try to post at least once a day. I’m going to try to cajole my boyfriend into writing a post every once in a while, also.
